    Kurzfassung/Abstract

    Customer waiting times are an important measure to evaluate an inventory system, especially with the customer's own inventory planning in mind. However, even in simple systems various influences may affect this performance measure and only approximate solutions are likely to be found.
    In this paper, two elementary inventory systems are analyzed, whose assumptions allow an exact calculation of customer waiting times. Based on the elementary analysis, approximation strategies are outlined to analyze larger supply chain structures. All stock units of the considered systems use periodic-review order-up-to (r,S) policies.
